THAILAND UDON THANI PROVINCE Ban Chiang

At Wat Pho Si Nai at the village edge, the excavation pit displays 52 skeletons, in whole or in part, together with lots of pottery.

Bang Chaing culture dated back to four thousand (4000) years.  The museum near the excavation site displays bronze objects which include  spearheads, sickles, axeheads, fish hooks, chisels, arrowheads, bells, rings and bangles.

It was declared a World Heritage Site in 1992.

Ban Pheu which is situated 42 km north-west of Udon Thani has a peculiar mix of prehistoric cave paintings, unique geological and Buddhist shrines, the bulk of which are at Phra Phutthabaht Bua Bok Park, 12 kilometers, outside of Ban Pheu on Khao Phra Baht hill.

The formations are an interesting mix of balanced rocks, spires and whale-sized boulders, with several shrines and three wats built in and around them.

At the entrance to the area is a largest temple at the historical park, Wat Phra That Phra Phutthabaht ua Bok, with its name sake Lao-style chedi.

Prehistoric paintings in several cave feature wild animals, humans and cryptic symbols.  For visitors, the side by side progression from rock art to Buddhist temples represents a localized evolution of thought and aesthetics.

In the course of the tour, I saw comparatively huge jars which I learned to be containers . of rain water.

Thank God for this wonderful trip.
