SAN BEDA COLLEGE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION
SBCAA President’s Report
by Atty. Dominador D. Buhain
(May 20, 2008)
Milestones carved by SBCAA are stepping stones to accomplishments of greater heights. The future of SBCAA would be dependent on what we have done today. May I humbly report on what has been achieved during my one year incumbency as President.
A. Healthier Financial Profile
The Association has recorded a healthier financial profile registering substantial cash for operations. Bulk of operating expenses appertains to salaries and wages of the Secretariat.
Income emanates mostly from alumni fees, proceeds for the Red and White Ball and other fundraising activities like the baratillo sale, homecoming, management fees paid by the SBC Alumni Foundation (SBCAF) and SBC Law Alumni Association (SBLAA).
B. PEP Rally and the NCAA Games
Confident than the Red Lions would have a back-to-back winning in the NCAA Basketball games, the SBCAA spearheaded the preparation of the traditional PEP Rally which took place a day prior to the NCAA Opening Rites.
Thanks to our Vice-President Albert Almendralejo, other SBCAA officers and the Secretariat for supporting the Red Lions to bring home the much coveted NCAA Basketball Championship trophy.
Through the kindness of Dr. Manuel V. Pangilinan and other alumni not to mention my own personal assistance, the Red Lions visited the USA for a week for rest and training.
C. Regular Quarterly Release of the Bedan Alumnus
Through the assistance of our valued doors and friends, we were able to come out with the Bedan Alumnus on a quarterly basis, reaching out to more Bedans here and abroad.
D. Financial and Other Assistance Granted Through the SBCAA
For Various SBC Activities
- Donation to SBC Taytay through the generosity of HS’58;
- Student Scholarship Program through the generosity of HS’58;
- Rehabilitation of the Abbey Church through the generosity of HS’58;
- Red Cubs and Alumni All Star Basketball League Championship Dinner;
- Through VP Almendralejo, the SBCAA assisted the SIFE composed of college students from SBC in their competition in USA;
- Dinner for Red Lions Team after the basketball games;
- Dinner for Red Lions and Red Cubs Basketball Team;
- Through Dr. Conrado Oca, a medical mission was sponsored by the Seaman’s Hospital at BESECO Compound in Tondo.
E. Website Enhancement Project
For a more informative and interactive SBCAA website, the SBCAA has initiated a Website Enhancement Project by:
- hiring the services of a webmaster;
- suing DSL line connection to surf the net;
- purchasing a new computer (Intel Pentium D).
F. Amended SBCAA Constitution and By-laws
The SBCAA Constitution and By-laws has been amended to give clarity to its mandate by removing all surplasage, irrelevant and conflicting provisions. It introduced amendatory provisions which include the limitation to two consecutive academic years the term of office of a director.
Allow me therefore to thank everyone who collaborated in bringing SBCAA to its present dignified position. Profound thanks should be given to my co-officers and directors, to the SBCAA and SBCAF Boards for being extraordinarily helpful to bring about the desired results.
Special commendation goes to the SBCAA Secretariat team composed of Fr. Benabarre, Prof. Alajar, Wilma, Jovy and Alex who efficiently facilitated the realization of our assigned tasks and projects. We are indeed proud of their efforts to make the SBCAA a great alumni institution.
In closing, may I express on behalf of the SBCAA Board of Directors my gratitude and appreciation to the San Beda College administration, the faculty and students. Whatever gains SBCAA achieved would not have been possible without their indispensable support and cooperation.
Thank you very much.
