MESSAGE OF THE CHAIRMAN AND PRESIDENT
ON THE OPENING CEREMONY
OF THE REX GROUP OF COMPANIES’ SPORTSFEST
(July 19, 2014 5:00PM Angelicum Gymnasium, Quezon City)
Greetings!
We commence today our Sportsfest 2014 that culminate on January 24,2015 (which is the anniversary date of the founding of Rex Book Store on the same date sixty four (64) years ago and coinciding with the birthday of our COO Don Timothy I. Buhain).
Amidst the gloomy surrounding and damage caused by Typhoon Glenda we wish to express our deepest thanks to Divine Providence for allowing us to pursue with the sportsfest opening day.
I would like to take the entire group of the Rex staff for allowing us to continue to survive and progress for almost seven (7) decades now to contribute to the educational requirements of our citizenry.
May I take opportunity to recognize the organizers of this event particularly the Union as its prime mover and the members of the Sports Committee. It is unfortunate that the Union President Domeng Miguel could not be here with us due to health reason. Let us pause for one(1) minute and pray for Domeng’s speedy recovery.
I wish to acknowledge also the effort of the Sports Committee who formulated the mechanics of the different games in this sportfest to make it enjoyable and competitive without hampering the respective work operations within the entities under the Rex Group.
The objective of each one is to win either collectively or individually. Each will just try its utmost best to win within the regulatory framework of the rules consistent with our corporate values of discipline and integrity.
Although our intention is to win it must be characterized at all times with sportsmanship mindful that our opponents are our colleagues.
Before concluding I wish to reiterate my thanks to the organizers particularly the Union Officers in cooperation with the Sports Committee namely Randy Uba, Lito Mawanay, Tito Dimanarig, Tina de la Cruz, Jayvie Bion, Adonis de Leon, Deney Anicete, Agnes Bautista and last but not the least Juna Cortez.
The fact that we are gathered here to day is a manifestation that we are willing to face earthly challenges that would redound to the welfare not only to us but also to others with the help of Divine Providence.
I therefore declare the Rex Group’s Sportfest open. Godspeed. Thank you.
